What is it like working with an attorney on a real estate matter?

Wood Law makes it easy. Most people start by calling us. During the call we’ll ask you a few questions to understand your needs. Then we’ll give you a list of the information we’ll need to proceed. If you use e-mail, we’ll send you an e-mail with the necessary details.

In real estate matters, most clients will drop off the necessary information at our office, though sometimes e-mail is used. We’ll review the documents and contact you to suggest a plan or set up an appointment.

For simple matters, the necessary documents are drafted, and you come to the office to sign them when they’re completed. For more complex matters we often suggest a meeting to review issues, goals, and solutions.

How much does it cost?

Pricing varies per service. Some services are billed as a flat fee. A quitclaim deed is usually $125 and a purchase agreement for a private-party sale is $250. Other services are charged based upon time spent. Contact us and we can give you a more precise estimate for your needs.

Can I use an attorney instead of a realtor?

Yes, but realtors and attorneys provide different services. If you need help navigating the legal aspects of a real estate transaction, such as creating a purchase agreement, looking at property details and records, or filing documents, an attorney can be your best choice. If you need help finding the right property, knowing the value of a property, or help using the multiple listing service for properties, a real estate agent can be your best choice.
